Baron F. Nightingale cyclocross race bike built up by uBRDO in Kirkland.  Stop by and take it for a test ride.  It’s already raced a double header; 135 miles in the Rapha Gentleman’s Race and uBRDO Kickoff cross the following day.  Needless to say James is a badass. And that my friends is why we ride steel bikes.

    Baron Race Whip.

    • True Temper S3 tubing
    • Alpha-Q fork, Di2 Drivetrain
    • Shimano PRO Vibe OS bars and Stem
    • Chris King headset and BB
    • Reynolds Carbon clincher wheels
    • Thomson Masterpiece seatpost and a well loved
    • Fizik Aliante Carbon saddle.

17lbs at size 58. We could easily get it down to 16 with a few part swaps, but this is really the dream build for any racer or performance oriented rec rider.

STP; Way cooler than all the haters say it is!

As a racer most of my time on the bike is spent racing or training.  Occasionally I go for a fun ride with friends or bop around town on the bike getting from point A to point B.  To many racers the STP is a clusterfuck of people and waste of time because back to back 100 mile rides at what we call ‘recovery’ pace doesn’t really train us for anything this time of year (criterium season).

I decided to throw caution into the wind and participate when I was approached by Justin Neidermeyer from Cascina Spinasse with the proposition of a Spinasse sponsored team.  Now I don’t know about you, but I would subject myself to riding 200 miles with people of all skill levels to eat one of his meals in a heartbeat.

What struck me about the STP was the variety of riders that participate.  I get really excited when I see other people get excited about cycling.  Just riding along seeing that many people all a hootin’ and hollerin’ and having a grand time on the bike is fantastic.

Joining me on the ride was Duane from Wines of Washinton/Bikesale.com racing, Brad from Coal and a group of folks who are friends of Justin’s.  The ride was pretty uneventful, in a good way.  We hummed along, passing as necessary and averaged about 17mph for the first day.  Not much to say other than it was a beautiful ride.

Once at camp the food was already in the works.  Bruschetta with a soft goat cheese and Salumi that Justin made in his basement.  Of course there was wine and beer for our ‘recovery drink’.  Luckily Justin drove down early in the AM and secured two RV spots under some shady trees near the river in the Stan Hedwall campground which had quarter operated showers and a lazy river that was so picturesque it could have been a set at disneyland.

The rest of the night was filled with delicious food, and sitting around the fire BS’ing; ending with me “falling asleep” in the tent face down.
